After a month away from the garden, I’m back feeling refreshed and full of energy for the new growing season.
This year, I’m hoping to grow a few different things and also improve on what didn’t work so well last year… like growing too many parsnips for example!!
The garden brings me joy, and I want to keep it that way. If it ever starts to feel like an obligation, then there’s no point.
So this is my mindset for the year:
to enjoy the process more, not worry about whether everything looks perfectly tidy, and just go with the flow.
There’s beauty in the chaos too! I have learned that..🙂
Last weekend, we set up our tool shed, and it was exciting. Every time a little project comes together in the garden, its like a win! happy days

Amongst other things, I also worked on the calendula patch, which is coming along nicely. I added some well-rotted manure, though calendula doesn’t really need much. It’s one of those flowers that almost thrives on a bit of neglect… but I gave it a little boost anyway.

The ground was very wet, so made it difficult to plant potatoes. I know it’s a tradition here in Ireland to sow them on St. Patrick’s Day, but I don’t really follow that. If the soil is soaking wet, there’s no point so we’ll wait until the next time we’re back in Offaly.

I also noticed my comfrey plant is waking up again, which is such a great sign that spring is in the air. And the daffodils are up too ! 🙂

I’m happy we managed to get some manure for the veggie patch, this year, sometimes with all the travelling back and fort from sligo to offaly, is difficut to keep on top of things and some many things and things to do!, but finally we got more of it🥰

Despite all the hard work we did last weekend, I feel that being able to grow and work with my hands gives me a real sense of purpose. When we started this project, I never imagined we would come this far. Gardening is something special, and now more than ever, we need that kind of grounding and joy in our lives.
