The seed swap and plant share this month šŸŒ±

It was great to see people showing up for the seed swap and plant share this month in Coolaney Village.

All set up for the day

If I’m honest, I was a little worried no one would come, as I didn’t  do much advertising. Thankfully, Jerry from Orgady’s shop helped spread the word, and even a friendly group made an appearance.

I’m really grateful for the support of friends who helped make it happen. It would have been more difficult without them, some of them are involved in other community gardens and share the same love for plants.

We chose Wednesday at 18:00, thinking it would suit people finishing work around 17:00. Next time, I’d like to try a Sunday and see how attendance compares, maybe it will suit a different rhythm? Not sure, I will keep you updated.

This year, I made a few small improvements, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s still a new project, but it felt like people genuinely enjoyed it. I had always wanted to attend a seed swap myself event since I first moved here to Sligo, but I never found one nearby so I thought, why not create one?

My instructions board🄰

I arrived early to set up tables, brought along some gardening books for people to browse, and organised spaces for seeds and plants. I also added a bit of music to make it more enjoyable. We had a small refreshments table, and I shared some soap samples for people to take home.

Some books to browse

It was a calm and relaxed evening. A bit chilly, not like last year’s warmer weather, but perfect for catch up with others who share the same interest for growing things and wanted to get rid off some of their plants and bring new ones home.

There was a good  selection of plants and seeds to swap and share

Everyone went home with something different plants, seeds, and even new connections… myself included. I learned a few things as well, new d plant varieties( I got a few different tomato varities I never grow before, and excited to see how the develop and try taste them.

We also received some good feedback on the day, some of the ladies mentioned they would love to attend again next year, which was really encouraging to hear.

And of course, the car boot was full again by the end. 🌿
